This talk will provide an overview of an ongoing effort to enable the new PrestoDB C++ execution engine, code-named Prestissimo, and its use of the Velox library with the ability to run the TPC-H benchmark with good performance. This work is a collaboration amongst developers from several of the PrestoDB Foundation member companies that are working on Prestissimo and Velox. This includes Ahana, ByteDance, Facebook, and Intel. In this talk, we will cover a high-level overview of the Velox Data Platform library, the Prestissimo C++ worker, how the PrestoDB Java-based Coordinator interacts with Prestissimo, and what has been done to enable this framework to execute the queries in the TPC-H Benchmark. The talk will focus specifically on PrestoDB/Prestissimo processing these queries where the datasets reside on an S3 compatible object store in ORC or Parquet format.
